Asha sat in her office on that summer Friday afternoon, after a long week of climbing over and above the petty inter-office politics. She couldn't wait to start her weekend with a ritual scoop of kulfi, slow melting ice cream native to countries where mostly brown populations live. There is a place on a downtown city street corner where an Indian man with salt and pepper hair and matching mustache sells the usual suspects - pistachio, rose, mango, cardamom, saffron. They sit in their own buckets which fit in ice-filled holes in the cart along with Asha's favorite, the peach, which you couldn't find anywhere else but in her childhood summers, made by her mother from Georgia peaches. They don't have those in India.

Her peach dress was made from a 100% cotton sari hand-woven in a textile cooperative based in Orissa, India trimmed with an ancient temple motif in black. 100% cotton lining. Made in India. Designed in Brooklyn.
