Asha sounded the bronze temple bell to announce her visit to the Goddess with eyes shaped like a fish and upon whose shoulder sits a parrot. She prayed for peace, discipline and self-love. She prayed that her efforts to change would not be made in vain. She was reminded of the soft and true words of her grandmother. “We are here to grow, change and evolve. Tell me? If not that for that, for what?” She picked up a handful of rice, showered it upon the statue, and pressed her palms together in prayer for strength and humility. She walked out of the temple compound, wrapped her arms around herself and began the day.
Her black dress was made from a 100% silk sari hand-woven in a textile cooperative based in Orissa, India trimmed in green with an ancient temple motif and bhomkai. Made in India. Designed in Brooklyn.
